HÈLSINKI

Hyvää maanantaita (monday_dilluns) kaikille!
One of the extremely complicated decisions during a trip is that about where to go to eat. When you're abroad, somewhere in the world where you've never visited, choosing the right place to eat can become a huge problem... even more if yore traveling in a group. But... why is this happening? Perhaps one reason is because we know first hand what happens in our own cities, in those areas where restoration mainly for tourists should be catastrophic zone for anyone who appreciates good health of its own stomach... and their wallets. Quality of food and service in this kind of restaurants usually are inversely proportional to the price of the menu. In Barcelona, for example, eating at Las Ramblas, or at other hot spots of the city, close to major tourist attractions, should be forbidden!

But it might be some very smart cities that have solved it. And I'm thinking (how could it be otherwise?) about the city of Helsinki. As an old pioneering young modern city in many ways, the Tourist Information Board has published a brochure that aims to solve these problems we the tourists have to often deal with.

Food Helsinki? HEL YEAH! is the key to a good choice with (desirable) no surprises, and reveals the secrets of food culture in Helsinki. The brochure presents a very dynamic and graphically understandable (map) information and tips on local restaurants. One brochure and 50 locations spread over 5 districts (District Design, Green District, SOPA District, Hipster District and Historical District) trough 3 tram lines... restaurants, cafés, market halls, delis and kitchenware shops. It also includes details relating to the history of food in the country, a glossary of some Finnish words related to food, event details, seasonal products, street food, etc... _Food Helsinki? HEL YEAH!

But, who could be the one to explain us how this idea came to light? Of course our friend Elisabeth Heinrichs, Food Theme Coordinator from the Helsinki City Tourist Information Office can. I'm delighted to tell you that my master level thesis project has finally reached its most important milestone - Helsinki got its first food brochure! After six months of hard work (among others theory reading about branding, food travel, consumer behavior and service design, theory writing, social media interacting, moderating a focus group interview and leading an internal work group at our office), Food Helsinki? HEL YEAH! saw daylight for the very first time. (...) I couldn't be happier with the final brochure! The best user experience is when it's read with the the physical brochure in your hands. As you can see, the two-sided brochure approaches food as an entity: there are e.g. restaurants, cafes, street food places, grocery stores, recipe book stores, food lodging, kiosks and food tour companies in the brochure. I've come a long way from my initial ideas back in 2011.

Thank you Elizabeth for this gift! We will no longer have any excuse to find in Helsinki a place to eat and really say 'Hyvää Ruokahaluaa' (enjoy your meal)!

Nauttikaa! Enjoy_Gaudiu!
MOI, MOI!
